Mayor Todd Davis and the City of Dillon Tree Committee recently honored Mrs. Julia W. McLaurin for her many years of service to the Dillon Tree Committee.
During an informal ceremony, Mrs. McLaurin was presented a Certificate of Appreciation by Mayor Todd Davis and also another certificate from the Tree Committee both recognizing her distinguished efforts in making the City of Dillon a more enjoyable place to live.
Also at this ceremony, Tree Committee Chairman, Earl Dutton, announced that a ginkgo tree would be planted this winter in honor of Mrs. McLaurin. The date and site of the planting will be announced at a later date. Dutton added that the ginkgo tree is one of our more enduring landscape trees, having existed since prehistoric times. An adequate example of this tree species does not exist within the City of Dillon treescape.
This tree will fill that void and also serve as a witness to Mrs. McLaurin’s many years of faithful service.
Attending the ceremony with Mrs. McLaurin were Mayor Davis, Tree Committee Members Dutton, Betty Gibbons, Suzanne Lewis, Douglas Lynn, along with Mrs. McLaurin’s daughter, Mrs. Kay Lynn.
