James William Baker, Sr., 81, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Dillon Church of God directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Entombment with full military and caisson honors will be held in Evergreen Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation was held 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
Born in Florence County, August 30, 1930, he was the son of the late John David Baker and Addie Mae Russell Baker. He was a retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, a member of the Dillon Church of God, and was a faithful and avid Wildcat fan.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Baker of Dillon; children, James William “Jimmy” Baker, Jr., and his wife, Angela of Dillon, Teresa Baker Rogers of Latta, and John David Baker and his wife, Roseanne of Rock Hill; grandchildren, Jonathan Kaleb Baker, Matthew Gerald Rogers, Jaclyn Mariah Baker, and John David Baker, Jr.; great-granddaughter, Lillian Desire’; brother, Floyd Baker of Idaho.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his grandson, Chad David Rogers; brother, Walter Baker; and his sister, Ruby Turner.
The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Alexander, Dr. Phil Wallace, Dr. James Kelly and staff, and the McLeod Hospital Staff for the care given to Mr. Baker.
