The old Dillon Manufacturing building, located on North First Avenue in Dillon, was recently torn down.
Over the years, the building had fallen into a state of disrepair, which made removing the building necessary.
Dillon Manufacturing opened in the early 1950’s and manufactured parachutes as part of the war effort. After the war, they made robes and dresses and employed a large number of people.
In 1968, the building was sold to Florence Realty Corporation who in turn sold it to Protext, Inc., in 1983. In 1999, it was sold to JLB Partnership, LLP. Herald Distribution Center is located in front of the old building.
All permits were obtained to do the work, and the asbestos in the building was properly removed by Charlie Floria, who received his asbestos license for this job. He is only the fifth asbestos contractor in a 300 mile radius. He has done work for South of the Border and Perdue and has been in business for 18 years.
Nearly everything is being recycled except for some roofing and wood that went to the Dillon County landfill.
