Carley and Helen Wiggins were honored recently by Dr. Kenneth Manning and friends for Carley’s 10 year anniversary of writing for The Dillon Herald. His wife, Helen, was honored for her assistance and photography that has been done to preserve the history of Dillon County. Carley and Helen were honored with resolutions from the city, county and, state levels;  a key to the city presented to Carley, a dozen roses presented to Helen and many well-wishes.

The Dillon County Council passed the following resolutions:

RESOLUTION BY DILLON
COUNTY COUNCIL
HONORING HELEN WIGGINS FOR HER
CONTRIBUTION TO THE
HISTORY AND LEGACY OF
DILLON COUNTY

WHEREAS, Helen Wiggins is a citizen of Dillon County who has selflessly helped other citizens of Dillon County in need without seeking or gaining recognition for herself; and
WHEREAS, Helen Wiggins is an active member of local genealogy societies; and
WHEREAS, Helen Wiggins has tirelessly photographed numerous people, places and events, many of which have been shared and publicized in The Dillon Herald; and
WHEREAS, Helen Wiggins assisted in interviewing and researching related to the stories written by her husband, Carley Wiggins; and
WHEREAS, Helen Wiggins researched and shared many records of genealogical information in Dillon County and surrounding counties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Dillon County Council that Dillon County  Council recognizes and honors Helen Wiggins for her many contributions to Dillon County and to the  citizens of Dillon County.

CONTRIBUTION TO THE
HISTORY AND LEGACY OF
DILLON COUNTY
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins is a citizen of Dillon County who has selflessly helped other citizens of Dillon County in need without seeking or gaining recognition for himself; and
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins is an active member of local genealogy societies and has authored two books, Remembering Dillon County, published in 2008 and The Hidden History of Dillon County, published in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins has been recognized for a series of articles by the North Carolina Society of Historians, Inc. and writes a column for The Dillon Herald on the history of Dillon County and  the people who have contributed to the history of Dillon County; and
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins was named Dillon County Citizen of the Year for 2010 and was employed with Herald Office Supply in Dillon County for almost 46 years; and
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins is a former racing columnist for The Dillon Herald and announcer for the Lake View Track; and
WHEREAS, Carley Wiggins is a former Kiwanis Club member and serves as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Little Rock Baptist Church; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Dillon County Council that Dillon County Council recognizes and honors Carley Wiggins for his many contributions to Dillon County and to the citizens of Dillon County.
