Joan Jackson Meekins has won a prestigious award and has obtained a new position within her company.
Meekins won the Southeast Region Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society WOC Nurse Week award.
The Southeast Region contains 660 members and includes the states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee. It came with a monetary award/grant.
Meekins was also named the administrator of Florence Visiting Nurses Services. She took over the position on July 1st.
Florence Visiting Nurses is a private, family-owned skilled home health service that serves Dillon, Lee, Florence, and Marion counties. They provide skilled nursing services to the homebound. Some of their services include wound care, medical compliance, advanced wound therapies, and physical therapy.
Meekins was employed in December 2000. She graduated with a BSN from the Medical University and was certified in wound ostomy from Emory University in Atlanta.
Meekins is married to Leroy Meekins, Jr. and has two stepchildren. She is the daughter of Bessie Smoak and the late Stonewall Jackson. She has a passion for senior citizens and attends the Hamer Church of God.
