The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on South Carolina roadways from Friday, August 15, at 6 p.m. until Sunday, August 17, at midnight.
As of August 17, 444 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 463 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013.
Of the 317 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, 156 were not wearing seat belts.
Through midnight August 17, 48 pedestrians, 50 motorcyclists and seven bicyclists have died on state roads and highways.
