Several local baseball and softball players picked up post-season honors recently.
What people are calling the “first” day of summer, Memorial Day, has come and gone and the Dixie Youth Baseball program in Dillon is still going strong, but there is only one week after this one for our Minor League.
The Dillon Invitational Coach Pitch tournament was held on Saturday, May 24, with Herald Office Systems claiming the championship title.
Although Pageland Central is 73 miles away, the rural route to get there makes it seem a lot farther. But for the fans dressed in gold and black after the game the trip was worth the effort.
It was a heartbreaker in Latta on Wednesday night as the Latta Vikings fell short, 3-2, against the St. Joseph’s Knights in the 2014 Class A State Championship series.
The Dillon County Council for the Aging, in partnership with the South Carolina Department of Social Services will be issuing free coupons to low income individuals age 60 and older that may be used to purchase fresh produce at local participating farmers’ markets.

I had the distinct pleasure of attending an engagement part this past weekend at the home of Dr. Phil Wallace.
He was quiet and soft-spoken. He didn’t make much of a fuss. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the “Water Man.” I think he knew everybody, and it certainly seems that everyone knew him. He was not only my co-worker, but my friend.

I feel that when a person is elected, appointed or run unopposed into office (of any kind) they themselves do not have to be a perfect person; we all have our many faults, but I feel that they do need to hold themselves above reproach in that office with their decisions.

As I have been watching and reading the news concerning the town of Latta, I feel somewhat sad because of the matters at hand.
