$10 Million In Affordable Care Act Funds To Help Create Workplace Health Programs Available
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced today the availability of $10 million to establish and evaluate comprehensive workplace health promotion programs across the nation to improve the health of American workers and their families. The initiative, with funds from the Affordable Care Act’s Prevention and Public Health Fund, is aimed at improving workplace environments so that they support healthy lifestyles and reduce risk factors for chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

Community Award Funding Available
The South Carolina Chapter March of Dimes is currently accepting applications for the 2011 Community Awards Program. The goal of the Community Awards Program is to identify and fund community-based programs addressing the health concerns of pregnant women and infants in the state of South Carolina.

Federal Government Will Not Extend FUTA Surcharge, $55 Million Savings For SC Businesses
South Carolina businesses may soon see a reduction in what they pay for their Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) liability. The federal government recently announced it will not seek to extend the 0.2 percent employer FUTA surtax scheduled to expire at the end of the month.
