Jamie Malachi Jackson Clewis, a dear infant, died Saturday, October 2, 2010. Born October 2, 2010 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon. Surviving are his parents, Daniel (Chip) Jackson and Jenny Anne Clewis of Dillon; brother, Daniel Jacob Clewis of Dillon; maternal grandparents, Eugene & Carolyn Clewis of Hamer; paternal grandparents, Mrs. Ann Morgan & Mike of Dillon; paternal great grandparents, William & Doris Dudley of Dillon; aunt, Marilyn Pavey & Jim of Greenville, NC; uncles, Matthew Wayne Clewis and Dusty Jackson, both of Dillon. Jamie was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica Lynn Jackson Clewis; great-grandparents, Arthur & Peggy Bowen of Ayden, NC. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Hamer officiated by Rev. Eugene Wayne Clewis directed by Cooper Funeral Home.

Smoke alarms save lives, and can cut the risk of dying in a fire in half. However, smoke alarms must be installed, maintained and working properly to do so. That’s according to the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), which is promoting “Smoke Alarms: A sound you can live with!” as the theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, October 3-9, 2010. NFPA has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for 88 years.
The number of Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States increased by 43.7 percent to 2.3 million, more than twice the national rate of 18.0 percent between 2002 and 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau announced. About 45.8 percent of all Hispanic-owned businesses were owned by people of Mexican origin.
