On Sunday, August 23,  the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Bay Catfish Road in Latta in reference to an assault, according to Captain Cliff Arnette of the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office.

Jobless Rate Decreases

South Carolina’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased for the second consecutive month from 6.6 percent in June to 6.4 percent in July, which matches the unemployment rate from July 2014.

SCEMD Monitoring Tropical Storm Erika

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division is monitoring Tropical Storm Erika, which forecasters expect to strengthen into a hurricane.  As a result of the storm’s projected movement up the east coast, key local and state agencies have been notified to be ready to respond if the need arises.

Law Enforcement Investigating Car Break-Ins

Local law enforcement agencies including the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Dillon Police Department, and the Latta Police Department are investigating a number of vehicle break-ins that have been occurring the past few months, but that have hit the Latta area particularly hard in the past few days.

Relay For Life Seeking Volunteers For 2016 Event In Dillon County

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is seeking volunteers in Dillon County – walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers, community leaders, anyone wanting to make a difference – to organize and recruit fundraising teams, garner community support and corporate sponsorships, seek refreshments and prizes, plan entertainment, and lend a hand to ensure the success of the 2016 event.
