The Isham and Mary Watson Descendants Association Reunion was held on Sunday, June 23 at Antioch Church in Sellers.
The reunion has been taking place annually since 1904. (with photo slide show)
On June 2nd, this year’s high school and college graduates were presented with new study Bibles in the morning worship service.
The Florence County Economic Development Partnership announced that Caliber Funding will open a new Correspondent Lending Operation in Florence, SC. The national mortgage lender expects to create over 100 jobs over the next 12 months.
Sportsman Boats Manufacturing plans to expand its current operations in Dorchester County with a move into a larger facility. The $2.35 million investment is expected to generate 50 new jobs within the next five years.
I’m happy to report that the 21st annual Letter Carriers Food Drive was a big success in Dillon! Once again, our residents looked into their pantries and gave from the heart, raising 35,000 lbs. of food donations to fight hunger in our hometown. This was an increase from last year’s total.
Gordon Elementary School was very fortunate to receive thousands of books as part of a “Summer Read” Initiative in the state of South Carolina.
Posters for “Where Does Your Water Shed” contest was held and we had over 60 entries! These represented five area schools, South Elementary, East Elementary, Lake View Elementary, Lake View Middle School and Hyler Home School.
The Dillon County First Steps Partnership Board provided nine Child Care training sessions for child care providers from January-May 2013 to ensure that every professional is certified to work with children 0-5 years of age.
Alan Rodriguez, an eighth-grader at Dillon Middle School, was recently honored as the school’s Reader of the Year for 2012-2013.
