Sara Khalil Accepted Into Medical School

Sara Khalil, daughter of Nabil and Mona Khalil of Dillon, has been accepted to both the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. She is presently a senior at Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC.

State Library Hosts Smithsonian Poster Exhibit

The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) has joined the educational organization Facing History and Ourselves to dramatically increase access to the themes and content in its national initiative Choosing to Participate with a set of posters designed to encourage dialogue, engagement, respect and participation in classrooms and communities. This poster exhibit is currently on display at the SC State Library located at 1500 Senate Street in Columbia.

NFPA Launches ‘Voice of Sparky’ Contest

March 18 marks the 60th birthday of Sparky the Fire Dog®, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), who has been teaching children, parents and teachers on fire prevention and public safety for the past six decades. To kick-off this year-long celebration, today, the NFPA is launching a “Voice of Sparky” contest to find one special firefighter to be the voice behind this iconic Dalmatian spokesdog.
