Carlos (Shorty) Gene Moody, 69, passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Born in Dillon on May 22, 1942, he was a son of the late Lupton Moody and Blanche Whittington Moody.
Shorty served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC, and was self-employed in the floor covering business for over 40 years. Known for his love of NASCAR, hard work ethic, hunting, cars, and fishing, Shorty will be sorely missed.
He is survived by son, Sam (Tina) Moody; a daughter, Gayle Urban; a son, Gary (Debbie) Stanley; a son, Nick (Toni) Moody and five grandchildren. Brothers, Charles (Barbara) Moody, Lafon (Linda) Moody, and John Moody.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, March 23, 2012, in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia, SC 29209.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to American Cancer Society or the Victory Junction Gang 4500, Adam’s Way Randleman, NC 27317.
The family would like to thank Palmetto Baptist and Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospitals for their care of Shorty during his illness and also, a special thank you to Uncle Charles for his love and devotion for his brother.
