Latta’s Lady Vikings claimed another win over Mullins but the boys fell to the Auctioneers on Friday, December 14, in Mullins.

In girls’ basketball action, Mullins jumped out to a 14-7 lead in the first, but Latta outscored the Lady Auctioneers 20-12 in the second to carry a slim 27-26 lead into the half. Mullins outscored Latta 13-12 to tie things up 39-39 headed into the fourth, but the Lady Vikings rallied for a 20-17 fourth and a 59-56 win.

Niesha Godfrey led Mullins in the loss with 17 points, and Jaleah Lane and Brianna Brantley each added 12 for the Lady Auctioneers. Cassie Phillips scored nine, Brittani McDonald scored four, and JaQuiesha Wright scored two. McDonald and Phillips picked up six rebounds each and Godfrey grabbed five.

In boys’ basketball, Mullins took a 22-16 lead in the first and outscored Latta by a brutal 24-5 in the second to take a 46-21 lead into the half. Mullins widened the gap with a 12-8 third quarter, and despite a 19-10 rally from Latta in the fourth, the Auctioneers claimed the win 70-48.

Alex Brown scored a game-high 19 points with 10 rebounds to lead the Auctioneers, and Jalek Felton scored 10 points with eight assists. Dimintri Reaves also added 10 points; T. Swinton and Legette each added six; Purnell and Malik McGill each earned four; and Paul Stackhouse added two.

Latta’s Joshua McGirt led the Vikings with a team-high 13 points and Ken’Che Page added 11. Tyrell Sabb and Quane’ Williams each scored eight, Justin McClellan scored six, and Brandon Wilson earned two points for the Vikings.

The Lady Vikings improve to 4-0 while the boys are 0-4 in the regular season.

This Thursday, December 20, Latta will be at Dillon at 6:00 p.m. for the final game of the year for both teams. Latta will return to action on Tuesday, January 8, at Creek Bridge to open region play.
