“For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting. And his truth endureth to all generations.” —Psalm 100: 5
Our beloved Annie Eula Barnes Murriel (Ann)! the fifth child of the late Margaret McRae Barnes and James Maude Barnes, was born on September 9, 1933 in Dillon, South Carolina.
On Wednesday, December 12, 2012 Ann was called to her celestial home.
She grew up and graduated from Gordon High School on May 29, 1951. Ann then attended Beauty School in Charlotte, NC and returned to her birth home to work as a beautician in Little Rock, SC.
Seeking new opportunities, Ann moved to Brooklyn, New York in the late 1950’s. On April 7, 1957 she joined Saint Mary Church of Christ Disciples of Christ, since renamed, The Greater Saint Mary Church of Christ. Here she met and married the late Elbert Augustus Murriel, Sr. Ann was a member of the following ministries: The Angelic Choir, The Floral Club, The Steward Board, The Missionary Circle, The Sunday School Department as a Teacher and served in other areas of ministry for many years. She attended faithfully until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
She was employed at KayBee Exports, a textile retailer for more than forty years before retiring. Ann was an industrious and giving person. After retiring she spent time visiting the sick and shut in and doing volunteer work. She volunteered most often at the soup kitchen at Bushwick Parish United Methodist Church and Duncan Genns Senior Citizen Residence.
