Teams from across the state will square off this weekend to decide the 2014 state champions in girls and boys varsity basketball.

In Class A, Latta’s Lady Vikings will face St. Joseph’s for the girls championship title. Latta defeated Hemingway 58-48 to earn a shot at the title, while St. Joseph’s defeated Lamar 43-35 in the upper state championship.

The Class A boys championship will be between C.A. Johnson and Whale Branch. Whale Branch claimed the lower state title with a 69-62 win over Hemingway, while C.A. Johnson defeated St. Joseph’s 57-54 in the upper state.

In Class 2A girls, Bishop England defeated Dillon 68-53 to advance to the state championship game, while Andrew Jackson defeated Newberry 62-48 in the upper state.

Lake Marion defeated Ridgeland-Hardeeville for the Class 2A boys lower state title, and Newberry knocked off Indian Land 78-66 in the upper state for a shot at the state championship.

In Class 3A girls action, Crestwood edged Orangeburg-Wilkinson 33-32 in the lower state, while Dreher defeated Lower Richland 56-50 for the upper state title. Darlington claimed the 3A lower state boys title with a 66-60 win over Myrtle Beach. In the upper state, A.C. Flora defeated Greenville 42-40.

In Class 4A, Dutch Fork defeated Summerville 54-36 to advance in the lower state girls bracket, and Greenwood defeated Dorman 74-65 in the upper state. In 4A boys action, Wando eliminated Sumter 54-41 in the lower state, and Hillcrest held off Irmo 54-52 to advance to the state championship game.

The state title games will be held at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia, with Class 4A teams playing on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The other classes will play on Saturday, beginning with Latta and St. Joseph’s at 11 a.m.
