Services for William Jesse “Bill” Coward were held 3:00 p.m. Monday at Pyerian Baptist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Cooper Funeral Home. Visitation was held 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Coward, 93, died Saturday, January 17, 2015 at McLeod Medical Center in Dillon.
Born in Dillon County, SC, November 4, 1921, he was the son of the late Dan Wilson Coward and Julia Atkinson Coward. He was a member of Pyerian Baptist Church, and was a retired farmer. He also was employed by Finklea Chevrolet in Latta for many years, and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in World War II.
Survivors include his daughter, Clennie C. Thead of Rockdale, AL; son, William Jesse “Billy” Coward, Jr. of Latta; sister, Vera Safranek of Latta; brother, Dan Coward, Jr. of Latta; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; special niece and caretaker, Bernice Coward of Dillon.
Mr. Coward was preceded in death by his son, Foster Coward, and his brothers, Leroy, Leon, Vernon, Herbert, Robert, and Lafon Coward.
