Latta’s Lady Vikings defeated the Lady Trojans of Green Sea Floyds 43-23 on Friday night in Green Sea in girls varsity basketball action.
Latta took a 13-7 lead in the first quarter and outscored Green Sea 8-6 in the second to lead 21-13 at the half. The Vikings went 14-9 in the third quarter, and outpaced the Trojans 8-1 in the fourth to seal the win.
TaKeria Legette scored 14 points with five rebounds, five assists, and four steals and Mallory Townsend added 12 points. Maya Wright scored seven points and grabbed 12 rebounds with six steals. Riana Green added six points and Iyonna McKenzie earned four in the win.
Green Sea Floyds was led by Tamara Jackson with a team-high 16 points.
Latta improved to 9-3 overall and 4-0 in Region 8-A while Green Sea Floyds slipped to 7-5 and 1-3 in the region.
The Lady Vikings, ranked third in the state in Class A girls basketball, are tied with Carvers Bay at 4-0 in the region. The Lady Bears were ranked second in the state in recent polls. Hemingway, ranked fifth in the state in recent polls, is 2-2 in the region, with Green Sea and Lake View at 1-3 and Creek Bridge holds an 0-4 record.
Latta will host Carvers Bay tonight at 6:00 p.m. to determine the region lead. The Bears are 10-1 overall and defeated Hemingway 45-42 on Friday night. The Bears were led by Desaree Green with 11 points and Quantaisha Robinson with 10.
Latta has won 11 of the last 12 games against Carvers Bay and the Vikings are the defending state champs. Make plans to attend to support our local teams and check out some of the best Class A action in the state!
