The Latta Rescue Squad has replaced an ambulance lost during Hurricane Matthew.
They lost one of their ambulances while transporting evacuees from the makeshift shelter they had set up to the Red Cross shelter at Dillon Middle School during Hurricane Matthew.
They had to drive through some very deep water in Dillon, where the water actually came into the patient compartment. It did not drown out, but would not crank the next morning.
A mechanic who inspected it stated the entire electrical system was shot. It was totaled by the insurance company, and they were able to buy our “new to us” ambulance, said Robbie McDaniel of the Latta Rescue Squad.
Also, they had it striped and lettered in Latta High School green and gold, along with Viking decals on it to show their support for their schools, and to show appreciation to the support Latta District has given them.
