The Latta Area Stump meeting was held on Thursday night at the Ellis Performing Arts Center.
A small group came together to hear from political candidates vying for office in the Latta area.
The meeting was moderated by Latta Superintendent Dr. John Kirby. Candidates were asked to address the following issues: 1) How are you going to support quality education? 2) What is your position on school district consolidation? 3) How do you plan to bring quality jobs to the area? Candidates had six minutes to address these questions as well as make any additional remarks. Unopposed candidates were given three minutes to speak.
Clerk of Court Gwen T. Hyatt was the only unopposed candidate who attended and made remarks.
In the State Senate District 30 race, Senator Kent Williams sent regrets and a brief statement which was read by Dr. Kirby. Candidate Patrick T. Richardson did not attend.
All candidates in the State House of Representatives District 57 race attended and spoke. These candidates included Ethan Brown, Ryan Waller, Lee Walter Jenkins, and Lucas Atkinson.
In the Dillon County Council District Four race, remarks were given by Janet Altman Byrd and T.F. “Buzzy” Finklea, Jr. Aaron Gandy did not attend.
In the Dillon County Sheriff’s race, Sheriff Major Hulon made remarks. It was stated that Douglas “Humbunny” Pernell did not attend due to a previous commitment.
