The Latta Vikings varsity baseball team returned home on Tuesday, April 23, after handing Woodland a 11-2 loss in the Class 2A District VII playoffs in Dorchester.
Latta got on the scoreboard early in the game in the top of the first inning on a Chandler Nolan ground out that scored 2 runs.
Latta added a run in the top of the third inning and 3 runs in the top of the fourth inning to lead Woodland 6-0 before Woodland placed a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning. Latta added 3 runs in the top of the fifth inning. Woodland sent another run across home plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Latta managed 2 more runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Latta’s Noah Henderson pitched 6 innings to claim the win. He allowed 1 hit and 2 runs of which 1 was earned, walked 3, and struck out 10. Chase Mishue pitched 1 inning and allowed no runs, no hits, walked no one, and struck out 1.
T. Singletary was charged with the loss. He pitched 4 innings and allowed 5 hits, 6 runs of which 1 was earned, walked 4, and struck out 3. J. Herndon saw action on the mound. He pitched 1 inning and allowed 3 hits, 2 runs that were earned, walked 2, and struck out 2. J. Pilch also saw action. He pitched 2 innings and allowed 2 hits, 3 runs that were earned, walked 2, and struck out 1.
Latta did not commit an error in the game while Woodland was guilty of 5 errors.
Latta’ Dylan Brewer managed a double, a single, 2 walks, and 3 rbi in his 5 plate appearances. Deonte’ Stanley had 2 singles, a rbi, and scored a run in his 5 at-bats. Jamison Herring had 2 singles and scored 2 runs in his 4 at-bats. Chase Mishue had a single, 2 walks, and a rbi in his 5 plate appearances. Noah Henderson had a single, 2 walks, and a rbi in his 4 plate appearances. Hunter Sawyer had a single, a walk, and a rbi in his 5 plate appearances. Ian Autry had a single, a walk, and scored 3 runs in his 4 plate appearances. Chandler Matthews scored 3 runs. Chandler Nolan scored a run.
Woodland’s J. Pilch connected for a single in his 3 at-bats for the lone hit of the game.
Latta will play TBA in Class 2A District VII playoffs at TBA today (Thursday, April 25).
