The Latta Vikings defeated Branchville 9-0 in varsity baseball playoff action on Saturday, April 30, in Branchville, S.C.
McLeod Carmichael pitched the complete game and allowed 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8 in the shutout.
H. Watkins was credited with the loss for Branchville.  He pitched 4 innings and allowed 8 hits, walked 3, struck out 2, and allowed 7 runs of which 4 were earned.
Hughes pitched 2 innings for Branchville.  He allowed 2 hits, walked 2, struck out 1, and allowed 2 runs of which 1 was earned.
The Latta Vikings connected for 10 hits in the win and did not commit an error while Branchville was guilty of 3 errors.
The Vikings scored 1 run in the bottom of the second inning, added 4 more in the bottom of the third, 2 in the bottom of the fourth, and 1 run each in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
McLeod Carmichael helped his own cause as he collected 2 singles and a rbi in his 3 at-bats for the Vikings. Eric McGirt also picked up 2 singles and a walk in his 3 trips to the plate and scored 3 runs for Latta.
The Vikings’ Jackson Williams singled and walked in his time at the plate and collected 2 rbi for the day’s game.
Colby Lee singled in his 4 at-bats  and collected 2 rbi and scored a run for Latta. Brady Hatchell and Daniel Khalil each singled while Hatchell scored a run and Khalil picked up a rbi in the victory.
Cledus Williams singled and got 2 walks in his 4 plate appearances for the day for Latta.
Dalton Lane hit a homerun, picked up 2 rbi, and scored 2 runs in his 4 plate appearances for the Vikings.
Noah Moody and Deonte Stanley each scored a run in the Vikings’ victory.
All 4 of Branchville’s hits were singles by Thompson who had 2, and Connor and H. Watkins each had 1.

The Latta Vikings defeated Branchville 10-0 in 5 inning behind the pitching of Arica Gandy who a shut out and struck out 5 and walked only 1 in varsity softball playoff action on Saturday, April 30, in Latta.
Crider was the losing pitcher.
The Vikings scored first  with 7 runs in the first inning and added 3 more in the fourth inning.
Latta committed 2 errors while Branchville was guilty of only 1 error.
The Lady Vikings connected for 13 hits; Branchville connected for 2.
The Vikings’ Kaleigh Caulder was perfect in her 2 at-bats with 2 hits and a rbi while Macy Hyatt also garnered 2 hits in 3 at-bats.
Genesis Anderson and Brandy Williams each had 2 hits and 2 rbi in 3 trips to the plate for the Latta Vikings.
Latta is now 19-7 for the season.
Latta will host a team to be announced in the Class A District VII playoffs on Wednesday, May 4.
