James “Allen” Roberts passed away at his home on May 19, 2017 after battling cancer. He was 60 years old.
Allen was born on November 20, 1956 in Dillon County. He was a polio survivor. Allen was also a graduate of Latta High School and Southeastern Community College. Following school, he devoted 39 years of his life to Mohawk Carpet. Throughout this time, he served his community of family and friends with his mechanical skills. He valued timeliness, work ethic, and education. His push for these principles often led to his family members and coworkers striving to improve themselves. While most of his time was spent in and around Dillon County, Allen was a lover of the beaches of South Carolina. His biggest passion during his final days was visiting the Garden City Pier. His life will be cherished by his wife of 20 years, Susan “Carol” Roberts; daughters Tonya Hayes (Rodney), Deidra Jones (John), Sandy Jones (Erin), and Amanda Roberts; stepchildren Shannon Ward-Wiggins (Stanley), Jason Ward (Rebecca), and Don Ward; grandchildren, Bret Hayes, Skylar Hayes, Rodney Hayes, Eli Jones, Micah Jones, Janah Jones, Abigail Jones, Daniel Jones, Luke Moore, Gatlin Moore, Harley Wiggins, and canine son, Junior; great-grandchild Liam Hayes; sisters Janice Roberts and Judy Roberts; brothers, Rocky Roberts (Diane), Gene Roberts (Debbie), and Carson (Mincey), and uncle Ralph Hayes.
He was preceded in death by his father James Gary Roberts; mother Julia Ray Roberts; brother Johnny Roberts, and sister Agnes Wilkes.
Visitation was held 7-9 p.m. Sunday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. James Allen Roberts was held 5:00 p.m.Monday at Cooper Funeral Home.
The family is grateful for the care and support of the McLeod Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, 1203 E. Cheves St., Florence, SC 29506.
